ANTI-WRINKLE INJECTIONS AND COSMETIC INJECTIONS

Reduce the appearance of wrinkles and restore lost volume

Wrinkles, thinning lips and loose skin are common signs of ageing. If you’re interested in cosmetic treatments to help smooth out the appearance of wrinkles, enhance the pouting of your lips or tighten your skin, talk to our team at Sydney Park Dental.

Beyond their cosmetic benefits, we may also recommend anti-wrinkle injections to help patients manage symptoms of temporomandibular joint dysfunction (TMD) or other jaw and muscle pains.

When you book a consultation at our clinic in Erskineville, we’ll give you all the information you need about the cosmetic injections and other non-surgical treatments we offer. We’ll make sure you know all the possible risks and alternatives so you can make the right decision for you.

Am I suitable for cosmetic injections?

We’ll discuss your suitability for anti-wrinkle injections and other non-surgical cosmetic treatments during your consultation. We’ll make sure we understand exactly what you want from the treatment and will help you to set realistic goals.

These treatments may be less effective for people over the age 60 and are not recommended if you’re pregnant or breastfeeding, if you have damaged nerves or muscles, or certain medical conditions. We’ll ask for details of your medical history during your consultation to help us determine your eligibility.

You should also let us know if you’ve had anti-wrinkle injections or other cosmetic injections in the past, as this could affect your suitability or treatment plan.

What are the options?

Our dentists in Erskineville are qualified to provide anti-wrinkle injections and other non-surgical treatments for cosmetic reasons or to help with the management of certain muscle and jaw conditions.

We’ll explain what each treatment involves during your consultation. We’ll find out which aspects of your appearance you want to modify and will develop a treatment plan that considers your face as a whole, to ensure a more natural-looking finish.

The treatments can usually be completed in a single visit, but will need to be repeated on a regular basis if you want to maintain your new appearance.

Anti-wrinkle injections

This treatment involves injecting a compound into targeted areas of your face to block chemical signals from the brain and prevent the muscle from contracting. This can temporarily prevent new lines and wrinkles from forming and soften the appearance of existing wrinkles.

Anti-wrinkle injections can usually reduce the appearance of minor frown lines or other wrinkles on your forehead, on your nose, around your eyes (crow’s feet) or around your mouth. However, they aren’t as effective at reducing the appearance of deeper wrinkles or frown lines. They may also be able to reduce the appearance of a ‘gummy smile’ if your top lip rises too high above your teeth.

Anti-wrinkle injections may also be a non-cosmetic option if you have a condition such as temporomandibular joint dysfunction (TMD), teeth grinding (bruxism) or other jaw and muscle pains. These injections can relax the muscles in the jaw to help relieve pain and discomfort.

Lip and face enhancement

This treatment involves injecting a compound into your lips or other skin that may be thin, loose, dry or damaged. These injections can enhance the fullness of lips, cheeks or other target areas by adding volume. They may also be used to cover up acne scars or other minor scars and irregularities.

The treatment should take between 30 and 45 minutes, depending on how many injections you’re having. You may feel minor discomfort during the injections, but the treatment won’t leave any scars on your skin. We’ll develop an efficient treatment plan to minimise the number of injections required.

It usually takes 3 to 10 days before the full effects of the treatment will be noticeable.

How long will the treatment last?

These treatments are not permanent, and their results will start to fade over time. The duration varies for each individual.

Anti-wrinkle treatments usually last from 3 to 6 months.

Injections to enhance the lips and face may last from 18 to 24 months.

You can arrange follow-up appointments at our clinic for top-up treatments if you want to maintain your appearance.

What’s the recovery time?

During your consultation, we’ll advise you about things to do or to avoid before and after your cosmetic treatment, to help you achieve the best possible results and minimise complications.

We advise that you don’t take any unnecessary medications or supplements for 7 days prior to treatment, particularly those to increase blood flow or thin the blood. You should also avoid any strenuous exercise or activities on the day of the treatment.

After receiving your cosmetic injections, we advise that you exercise your facial muscles for 30 minutes to improve the chances of the treatment being successful. You should avoid touching or rubbing the treated areas for 24 hours and lie on your back rather than your front.

What are the risks?

You may feel a headache after receiving cosmetic injections. This can be managed with over-the-counter pain relief. If you have bruising or swelling around the injection sites, these should disappear gradually, or you can cover them with make-up or take anti-inflammatory medicine.

We won’t recommend these treatments if you’re in a risk category for complications. This includes people with damaged nerves, muscle complaints and certain medical conditions. Pregnant and breastfeeding women may also be at risk.

There have been cases of patients having allergic reactions to cosmetic treatments. If you have any unusual symptoms or side-effects after your treatment, make an emergency appointment at our clinic.

What do these treatments cost?

The cost of cosmetic injections depends on the type of treatment you choose and the number of injections you need. We’ll give you a reliable estimate when you book a consultation at our clinic.

Cosmetic treatments may not be covered by certain health funds. You should check with your insurer to find out more.
